Centre of National Defense and Security Education, Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 was established under the Decision No. 2630/QĐ/BGD&ĐT-TCCB dated July 27,  1999 by Minister of Education and Training. The Centre is responsible for educating  students about national defense and security, training teachers of National Defense and Security Education, and doing scientific research on military training.
   
Total number of military officers and public servants: 37 (military officer 23; public servants 14), including: PhD Degrees 02; Master Degrees 19; Bachelor Degrees 13; Vocational Training Degrees 03.

The Centre covers a total area of  55.920 m2. The Centre is equipped with adequate necessary facilities for  accommodation, daily activities and teaching and learning activities among up to 1,500 students each course. 

The organizational structure of the Centre is composed of the Centre’s Communist Party; Boards of Directors; 02 faculties (Faculty of Politics and Faculty of Military Science); 03 departments (Department of Administration and Archives, Department of Academic and Student Affairs, Department of Logistic Support, Finance and Technology), Unions  and Companies.

Faculty of Politics:
The faculty consists of 12 lecturers who take the responsibilities of designing curricula, course books, lecture notes and teaching subjects about policies of national defense and security; and doing research on military science.  

Faculty of Military Science:
The faculty consists of 11 lecturers, who take the responsibilities of designing curricula, course books, lecture notes and teaching subjects about general military tactics and strategies, and doing research on military science.
 
Department of Academic and Student Affairs
The department consists of 05 public and civil servants, who helps the Director of the Centre with academic and student affairs.

Department of Administration and Archives
The department consists of 05 public and civil servants, who helps the Director of the Centre with administration, management and archives.

Department of Logistic Affairs, Finance and Technology 
The department consists of 09 public and civil servants, who helps the Director of the Centre with logistic affairs, finance and technology.
Over the past 20 years of construction and development, the Centre has gradually achieved a sustainable development:
In terms of national defense and security education for students:

In spite of some existing difficulties, all members of the Centre have shown a strong unity, hard work, and a sense of initiative. The Centre also has a close connection with partner schools and military institutions in the neighborhood. All these factors assure a good education of national defense and security for students. By August 2018, the Centre has provided 194 courses and awarded Certificates of National Defense and Security to  257.370 students from 26 colleges and universities in Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, and Phu Tho.

In terms of national defense and security teacher education:
Since 2002, the Centre has provided 10 short-term training course for teachers of national defense and security; 07 four-year full-time courses of National Defense and Security  Education combined with Physical Education or Civic Education; 06 four-year full-time courses and 02 second degree courses  of National Defense and Security  Education. So far, the Centre has trained over 1,000 teachers of National Defense and Security Education who are working at lower and upper secondary schools, vocational schools, colleges and universities all around the country.  

In terms of scientific research:
 So far, the Centre has completed  04 research projects at ministry level; 05 prioritized research projects at institutional level, and more than 100 research papers published in journals of military and non-military science.  The Centre has also designed undergraduate curricula of National Defense and Security Education, and compiled a number of course books and reference books of National Defense and Security Education to be used in the Centre’s teaching and training.   

Apart from all the functions mentioned above,  the Centre plays an important role in consulting the School’s Party Committee and Board of Rectors  about solutions to improve the performance of the School’s self-defense forces. In addition, the Centre actively participate in such social and voluntary activities as blood donation, raising fund for victims of Agent Orange, visiting disadvantaged families in the local area and giving them gifts. All of these supports from the Centre are highly appreciated by the local Party Committee, authorities and people.  

Over the past 20 years of construction and development, Centre of National Defense and Security Education, Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 has become one of the top centres of National Defense and Security Education for college students all around the country.  The Centre is also a popular destination of National Defense and Security Education for many college students. 

With the excellent achievements and contributions, the Centre has been awarded Third Class Fatherland Defense Order by the President in 2009; certificates of merits by Minister of Education and Training in 2004, 2006, 2010, and 2011; certificates of merits by Minister of National Defense in 2006, 2008 and 2013; certificates of merits by People’s Committees of Hanoi and Vinh Phuc in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013;  and many other certificates of merits by High Command of Hanoi, Vietnam Red Cross Society, and National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.  

 In the next few years, the Centre continues to promote achieved results by:  + Strictly following national policies of national defense and security education;

+ Strengthening the Centre’s staff, standardizing the teaching staff, improving the teaching quality;
+ Developing a strong Party Committee for the Centre’s comprehensive and sustainable development.
+ Actively implement the teaching and learning renovation under the Resolution. 29/NQ-TW, Session VIII (Legislature XI) approved by the Party.

Regularly improving the teaching contents and methods, promoting scientific research, upgrading facilities, lecture halls and drill grounds to enhance the teaching and learning quality. Making full use of the assistance from the superior bodies, closely cooperating with other schools and institutions in the neighborhood and local authorities to develop the Centre’s strength to become a model of military education, fulfilling all the responsibilities assigned by the Rector of the university./.
